This week’s #inspirationseries episode is huge.
This is a story about how one design agency used an amazingly creative idea for a side project which in the end turned into an effective attention-magnet.
People go crazy over side projects these days, and for a good reason. They are a great way to get press, links, shares, and to get your brand talked about.
In this post, we’re presenting 20 outstandingly gorgeous designs of the letter H. Each piece is refined to perfection: as you’ll see in these examples, the whole design team combined their forces to create H’s in different mediums. You’ll see 3D design, product photography, clever use of line icons, animation, and photo manipulation all adding a piece to this amazing puzzle.
The company behind these redesigns is Huge, a design agency that seems very nice to work at 9-5 (if you’re into that kind of thing). I was intrigued by their odd but impressive collection of H’s so naturally I invited the team to offer an explanation.
Here’s what Ian Burns, the agency’s creative director, had to say about it.
The H is Huge’s flag. The shape and space of the letter is a blank canvas for everyone at Huge to share work they’ve done while reinforcing our overall brand identity. This is our symbol, recognizable across the web as a tribute to things we’ve made that we love.
One of my favorite H’s has been for the Brazilian newspaper, Estadao, and probably took about 15-20 attempts before we came up with something that we were really excited about.
Our Halloween Hs are another example of some of my favorite work. On the morning of Halloween, we decided to do an H — but by 11:00am, we got the urge to create three different monsters as H’s. We started pulling in designers from across the office, choosing to create everything in 3D. Next, we came up with the idea of making them animated gifs (something that we had never done before for our website). Before the end of the day, we had three unique monster H’s taking over the Huge homepage and they were a real hit.
The H’s didn’t promote a product we were launching or link to anything particularly important, but they represented our brand and what Huge stands for.
